We’re continuing to make strong progress on the construction of a 38.5-kilometer water pipeline between Grantham and Peterborough.
This pipeline forms a key section of a wider strategic water network, which will ultimately connect routes from North Lincolnshire to Essex. The project also includes the development of a new reservoir at Welby, supporting long-term water resilience across the region.
Progress to Date
On the northern section between Grantham and Peterborough, works are progressing well. To date, approximately 24.5 kilometer’s of pipeline have been successfully installed. Alongside this, reinstatement activities are being carried out at various locations to restore affected areas.
Upcoming Works in Your Area
Our current programme of activity in the local area is expected as follows:
Haul Road Construction (Spring):
Temporary haul roads will be created to allow safe access for vehicles and equipment into working areas.
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) – Maxey Road (Summer):
This technique will allow the pipeline to be installed beneath the road without the need for closures, minimising disruption.
Horizontal Directional Drilling – Maxey Cut (Summer):
Installation beneath the watercourse & road is scheduled to take place during this period. Without the need for closures, minimising disruption.
Haul Road & compound removal (Summer):
Temporary haul roads & compounds will be removed, after HDD’s completed, to allow for land restoration.
Pipe deliveries Stringing (Summer/Autumn):
Pipes will be delivered, laid out, and welded in preparation for installation.
Pipeline Installation Completion (Autumn):
Pipeline section is expected to be in the ground by this stage.
Land Restoration (Spring 27 – If all progresses ahead of programme, will plan to reinstate as much as possible/weather conditions allow in Autumn 26)
Final reinstatement works will include returning land to its original condition, along with the replanting of hedgerows, trees & access reinstatement (Autumn/Winter ’27).
Looking Ahead
We’ll continue to deliver this project safely and efficiently while minimising disruption to local communities and the environment. Further updates will be provided as works progress.
